Crap-I-found-you-but-I-have-to-keep-you-now

Me & Katy

So....
These folks were obviously not discovered in the knick knack aisles of Savers.  I discovered my friend, Katy (purple bandana), in my 4th grade classroom, mid-year. She was the new girl.  I could identify because I was the new girl, mid-year of 3rd grade, the previous year.  Being the compassionate, sensitive one that I was (yes, future counselors can be identified in early childhood), I immediately honed in on the new girl as my primary threat to survival, and by survival I mean fitting in with my social group.  At that time, my social group consisted of the 6 other girls in my           classroom.  How naive would I be to allow this newcomer to swoop in and threaten my freshly established social-footing (I knew my place at the lunch-table).

I decided right then and then that at the first recess I would make sure she didn't try any social disrupting shenanigans, silly new girl.  Well...the first recess and 20 some odd years later me and the new girl are still at odds, as you can tell.  I showcase her today, along with her two new-girl offspring (my new girl is in the middle), because she and her new-girl family are moving soon out of state.  My feeling of incense created by my preconceived notions about this new-girl (See I can apply Cog-B to my own life sometimes) has morphed over time into incense-ful feelings of her abandoning me...how dare she! I guess that's how life goes when we find unexpected people and friendships within the confines of our own prejudices and all we can do is admit defeat and say crap-I-found-you-so-guess-I-have-to-keep-you-now.
